4.1 Housing » No alcohol & no drugs

Out of recognition for the negative impacts of substance abuse in Indigenous and Native American communities, please note that alcoholic beverages, recreational drugs including cannabis, and controlled substances are strictly prohibited on the IAIA campus, unless by formal exception for special events* or special cases, as determined by IAIA. UCR students who are found to violate this policy risk dismissal from the program.

This prohibition applies to all UCR students, regardless of their age, and extends not only to the consumption and use of such substances on the IAIA campus but also to their possession on campus. Even if you are of legal drinking age, and even though cannabis is legal in New Mexico, it is prohibited to possess or use these substances on the IAIA campus (among many other illegal or controlled substances). Please, out of respect for our IAIA and our Indigenous hosts and neighbors, let's adhere to the policy.

If you have questions about anything related to IAIA's alcohol and drug policy, please ask a UCR program staff member for clarification.

* The Complex Systems Summer School is such a special event that has an exception to the 'no alcohol' policy on the IAIA campus. This exception is allowed in a very specific location – the social patio – and applies only to members of the Summer School program (and only to alcoholic beverages). UCRs, regardless of age, are bound to uphold the no alcohol policy.
